I laid on Red!!!

Hey, Whaz up my peeps?  I'm doin' good...  I laid on Red today!  By next Sunday my dad will let me sit astride him!  YAY!  I am sooo excited!  Any Tips for me?  Oh and last night we let the horses roam around the property instead of in their paddocks.  I'll tell ya'll what I did today~
First I rode Sonny over a 1-1/2 - 2foot jump combo.  He really drifted in the direction of the other horses.  We corrected that by going the opposite direction than the direction the others were in  the 2nd jump we would go in the opposite direction than the other horses.
Then I played w/ Red, the saddle, and the bridle.  He did GREAT!!!  I had sooo much fun!  I laid across him, worked on lateral flexion, walked over poles, and JUST HAD FUN!

Have someone with you, holding Red, and just put all your weight in one stirrup, and if Red seems like he doesn't like it, or gets that crazed look in his eye, take your weight off immediately. Try again. If the same thing happens, you might want to quit trying to get on that day. Try again tomorrow! I'm sure you'll get it. But lets go back to the beginning situation. If he DOESN'T get that look in his eye, (which the other person holding Red will tell you about) then go ahead and swing your leg over. If he doesn't seem to like that, swing your leg back over again immediately and try one more time. If it repeats, quit for the day. If he DOESN'T get that "look" in his eyes, then sit on there, heels down, shoulders back and butt FIRMLY down in the saddle (sitting back), let your person lead you around a little. After that, I'd quit for the day, but I guess it's really your decision after that... But my advice is to quit on a good note if he's good about that. Do more tomorrow. Take teensy baby steps. You want to go slow rather than try to push it and possibly not be safe. You may think Red's predictable and good, but getting ON him is a WHOLE DIFFERENT SITUATION. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

I SO know the look:)! I also trained Sonny to saddle and I was like my trainers 2nd child so she tended to be over protective:)! We did ALL kinds of different things to make sure he'll be OK and I did the same thing w/ Red:)! Sonny used to give me, as we have dubbed it, the evil eye :- P when he was in the teenage/rebellion stage! lol! LOTS of baby steps!!! 1 thing I did w/ Sonny was I would do a LOT of lateral flexion and grazing w/ me perched up their cause I teach them lateral flexion from the ground, I grazed him so it was FUN:)! Thanx a WHOLE LOT for the tips though, I kinda forgot some stuff and need a refresher course....

Note:
Red is already a TON more unpredictable than Sonny cause he switches Horsenalities in seconds!

A Good Poem...

When you run so fast to get somewhere
you miss half the fun of getting there
if you worry and hurry through your day
it's like an unopened gift
thrown away
Life is not a race
Do take is slower
hear the music
before the song is over."
